First Grade in Glendale, AZ
At Pinnacle Pointe Academy, we believe first grade is one of the most important milestones of a child’s education. As they make their way through public charter schools in Glendale, AZ, everything they learn and build on will go back to the fundamentals—foundational knowledge they develop in the first grade.
First grade at our public charter school in Glendale, AZ is taught by Danica Grobnagger. Her curriculum is strongly rooted in core concepts of math, science, language arts, and social studies. Classes focus on engraining every student with the skills they need to bridge to larger, more complex concepts. And, of course, hands-on, exciting activities make learning fun! First grade is where our kids become cognizant of their love of learning.
- English Language Arts: Our English language arts unit covers many topics throughout the year. We focus on text types, as well as story elements, and parts of speech. Students also practice sight words, reading fluency, and comprehension.
- Math: In math we explore addition and subtraction facts and work our way to double digits. We also cover place value, time, more than, less than, equal to, fact families, fractions, shapes, and measuring.
- Science: Students participate in many hands on activities. We learn about the life cycle of plants and animals. We also explore light and sound, force and motion, habitats, space, and some scientist that came before us.
- Social studies: Students learn about early civilizations, needs and wants, geography, using maps, rules and responsibility, how a society runs, and all about our nation’s symbols and holidays. Through out the year we explore these concepts through hands on activities and in class projects.
