Third Grade in Glendale, AZ

Third grade is an opportunity to solidify the fundamental topics learned in earlier grades. At Pinnacle Pointe Academy, this is the time when we start to introduce more robust concepts and higher-level thinking, getting our students accustomed to the types of learning they’ll face in charter middle schools in Glendale, AZ. Thanks to smaller classrooms, kids get the attention they need to keep pace with the rigorous demands of advanced learning.

The third-grade teacher at our charter middle school in Glendale, AZ is Katie Shaw. She strives to prepare students for more advanced learning concepts while keeping the classroom fun. Her curriculum builds on the strong foundations of first and second grades while helping students realize their capacity for higher-level thinking.

  • Math: A major math concept that third graders are expected to learn is multiplication. They will be expected to know their facts up to 12 x 12. Along with that, third graders will be adding and subtracting 3 and 4 digit numbers with regrouping, rounding numbers, dividing numbers, locating fractions on a number line, identifying shapes and their attributes, analyzing data on graphs, and more!
  • English Language Arts: Third graders will be reading and demonstrating comprehension of grade-level texts in various activities. This includes novel studies of books such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Third graders also write narratives, as well as informational and opinion texts.
  • Science: In science, third graders explore light and sound and how energy is transferred through waves. Third graders also learn about the structures of plants and animals and how they react to different stimuli.
  • Social studies: Third Grade Social Studies is all about the state of Arizona! Students have fun learning about the history of our state. Some of the major topics we learn about in third grade include Arizona regions, ancient and current Native American tribes, Westward expansion, Arizona’s statehood and the government of Arizona.
